Summer Newsletter 2017

Welcome to the Maine Lakes Society Summer 2017 Newsletter!

The vast majority of Maine’s lakes are dimictic lakes, which means they turn over, or mix top to bottom, twice a year, when water is at its densest just before ice in and shortly after ice out. For lakes deeper than about 25 feet, these turnover events are the only times during the year when these lakes become fully saturated with oxygen all the way to the bottom.
